Spain is Coming to Invade Philippines Again #awesomeph

Time has stood witness to the centuries-long bond between our country and Espana. They have colonized us long enough to instill some family values, cultural and faithful traditions that we hold so dear today. In the next few days, that bond would soon be rekindled but in a grander, more festive and flavorful way as we celebrate the Madrid Fusion Manila 2015. Check out the artsy upbeat TVC above.

About Madrid Fusion

It is a yearly conference and trade show where the greatest chefs, entrepreneurs and tycoons in the industry come together and build the future of food in Madrid. We are lucky enough that Department of Tourism and SM brings it here for the locals to have a taste of the good life.

“SM is proud to be the venue of the historic Madrid Fusion Manila. We believe that one of the Philippines’ best-kept secrets is our rich culinary heritage,” said Steven Tan, SM Supermalls Senior VP.

I am personally inviting you to take your love for food to the next level this April 24-26, 2015, at the the Madrid Fusion Manila 2015 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

There's going to be a Gastronomy Congress where food tasting will overflow and avant-garde techniques in food prep and serving will be demonstrated by eight Spanish chefs who have been flown in for the event.

A Trade Exhibition will showcase the latest in food gadgetry and supplies.

There's also the Festival of the Philippines where hotels and restaurants will brandish celebrity chefs in food tours, trucks, tastings, and bar crawls all month of April.

New food concepts will be available at select SM Mall of Asia restaurants, while SM Aura Premier will host its own Spanish-themed fiesta with music, dancing, food and drinks on April 26 at the Sky Park lawn.

Also from April 24-26, irresistible dining deals await all food lovers at SM Megamall’s newly-opened Mega Food Hall.

#JayseeBlabs About Food Event Marketing

Event Marketing is a very dynamic industry that juggles through visual design, program handling, guest relations, staff coordination, branding and advertising, on top of that you need to creatively capitalize on the audience's innate nature for the love of food and flavor.

It is a good thing to note that companies has begin to tap on social media for marketing and feedback aggregation all the while using the messages about the cultural roots to draw attention and personalizing the campaign.

But then again one measure of success is how much buzz is generation and creating a 'regionalized' version of the world-class event right here in our land is a big challenge. Lifestyle here in the metro has already matched the pace of our western counterparts so adoption of such ideas has not been much of a drag. So when in doubt, choose food.

Watch Why Manila Motorists Had a Great Morning #awesomebrand

City life is something dreadful for the everyday motorist. Though there are beautiful reasons to smile and welcome the day, we can't help but linger about things to do at home, stressing about tasks to complete at work and, yes, frown upon the dragging traffic that makes mornings the worst part of the day for some. Then there comes a fastfood chain who made the most pleasant surprise in a PR stunt that brought joy in the most unexpected of ways.

#JayseeBlabs Closer Look on Contest Marketing

There are a lot of ways small businesses can benchmark on Schneider Electric's marketing strategy. If you have noticed, they used competition for brand marketing. They are trying to reach the Millenial Generation as a company of choice as part of talent acquisition and brand positioning in the potential market.

Yours Truly with EON Team Members

The stakes they are offering are very exciting and the learning experience that they will get is definitely priceless. The competition they are organizing will also aid research and development and stir up creative outputs in the chosen field as a catalyst of idea generation and eventually it might trigger new lines of businesses as well.

As reports, "Like other tools, contests can be extremely effective when used as part of a comprehensive social media strategy." Consider mechanics, platform, reach and target audience, regulations, industry reports and trends, specific measurable goals such as brand awareness or inspiring change or entrepreneurial spirit, prizes, and assess the current strengths of your company and brand as well as the opportunities for growth and understand how you can use that to your advantage.

Did You Know You Are Losing Four Days Every Month, Here’s Why

Filipino motorists, apparently, spend over a thousand minutes each week on making decisions alone. At least that’s what a recent study reveals.

We might not notice it but if we look at the bigger picture, we dedicate a large part of our lives unknowingly just to scratch our head stressing over life’s small unnecessary details.

A nationwide study by Shell publicized that Filipinos make over 30 conscious decisions each day that could have been dedicated to more important things like spending time with family, reaching organizational goals in your career, finding ways to expand your business, and laughing out loud with friends. As a firm that aims to make their customers’ lives easier, they are currently looking into ways in providing more value through introducing products that we can rely on.

With Shell's Celebrity Driver of the Year, Ms Bianca Gonzales sharing her experience with smart long haul driving.
With Shell's Celebrity Driver of the Year, Ms Bianca Gonzales sharing her experience with smart long haul driving.

With a lot of pressures about modern city living, our evolving needs have been the top priority of today’s top service and product providers.

Mango Tree in Bonifacio Global City Taguig City Metro Manila packed with bloggers and media practitioners celebrating the feat of the participants and winner of the Shell Driving Challenge.
Mango Tree in Bonifacio Global City packed with bloggers and media practitioners celebrating the feat of the participants and winner of the Shell Driving Challenge.

We should be conscious even in our small actions from now on and literally make every second count. For time can never be taken back once wasted.

The Shell FuelSave Good Choice Report poked into the lives of commercial drivers, private individuals, moms and college students who drive at least once week, from different key cities such as Metro Manila, Dagupan City, Batangas City, Metro Cebu and Davao City. It is indeed revitalizing to note that our fretfulness even in deciding where to eat, what to do, where to go, to milestone decisions such as career and financial planning takes up a huge chunk of our lives.

“We recognize that our customers are very busy people and are pre-occupied with so many things,” says Mr Anthony Yam, VP Pilipinas Shell.

While most Filipino motorists make decisions based on own personal prejudices and considers themselves as strongest influencers in their decision-making, there are a lot of things being put into regard. Funds, family and life partners are naturally being consulted as well.

The study also emphasizes that these decisions are done in the morning, while out of home and most of the time, on the road. These are things we all know already, can all relate to and it is saddening that it had to take a corporate study to make us aware of our habits.

Beautiful models manning the Shell app kiosk at the event.
Beautiful models manning the Shell app kiosk at the event.

And just a great way to highlight how making good choices impact our lives positively, Shell organized a Driving Challenge event. Putting together celebrity Bianca Gonzales and 13 everyday drivers test road savvy and fuel efficiency skills as they drive from Bonifacio Global City to Batangas and back. To those who are not aware of how long a drive that is, it is about 240 kilomoters. That’s around five audiobooks, 10 US Top 40 albums, singing your next favourite song on Spotify, ranting about that annoying girl at work or taking a pic of the cars in front you for Waze points and the list goes on.

Shell Fuel Scientist Mae Ascan, the only Filipino Fuel Scientist in the world, gave a special mentoring session to the participants on smarter driving behaviors. Ultimately, through this Challenge, choosing the right fuel does not have to be a tough decision, states Mr Yam. And yes, there’s a hundred years of street cred of the conglomerate to prove that.

What is your goal for today? How will you make life’s precious minutes count? What difference will you make after reading this?

#JayseeBlabs Closer Look on Consumer Studies

Knowing all about your consumer will make you a greater company since you would be able to adapt to lifestyle changes that might be influencing them as they make choices. Consumer Studies are a great way to and Shell did a great job at collating data and developing marketing strategies that revolves around the results.

Business communication can aid in resolving market problems as people make smarter decisions and the way they did information acquisition and manipulating it in such a way that it would promote the brand was a great way of making a process personal for a company of a global heritage.

There are a lot of consumer behaviors that you should put a focus to such as social, economic, psychological, even technological. Sampling methods based on what your research goals may be employed accordingly. You can reach your consumers by personally communicating with them through your social media channels or 'incentivizing' their answers through e-survey prizes.

Road to Finals: Elite runners win 38th National @MiloPH Marathon

Elite runners Rene Herrera and Lany Cardona set a swift pace for the 21-K division run at the 38th National MILO Marathon on Sunday in Dagupan City. Each received a cash prize of P10,000, a trophy, and a coveted spot in the National Finals on December 7 for their respective victories.

Out of more than 10,000 runners, 48 qualified for the National Finals in this leg. As an added incentive to the prestige of winning the country’s premier footrace, MILO will be sending this season’s MILO Marathon King and Queen to compete with the world’s finest athletes at the Tokyo Marathon in 2015.

35-year-old Herrera led the pack, clocking in a time of 01:12:36. Robino Javier followed close behind, finishing at 01:15:59, and Ronnie Rosete placed third 01:19:37. Herrera, who hails from Guimaras, is a member of the Philippine Navy and a five time SEA Games gold medalist. He also competed in the 2012 London Olympics.

“I have joined the MILO marathon since 1995, and this year, the race is part of my training for my qualification in the Philippine Team for the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea,” expressed Herrera. “Qualifying for the National Finals is an added boost for me and it will certainly help me in my hopes to be part of the national team.”

Herrera has been training in Baguio, the Philippine Team’s base in preparation for the Asian Games in September. His training regime consists of morning and afternoon sessions with extensive runs in the city’s Marcos Highway. Coach Jim Saret, creator of the MILO R2-APEX Running School, has also invited Herrera to be his assistant coach for beginner runners in the Baguio roadshow of the running school in June this year.

In the distaff side, Lany Cardona took advantage of the good weather and placed first, posting a time of 01:30:20. Rivals Cinderella Lorenzo (01:33:27) and Cristina Melchor (01:50:58) placed second and third, respectively. The 23-year-old housewife from Bolinao, Pangasinan is the record holder for winning the most number of gold medals in the PATAFA National Open.

“We are lucky it is sunny today, which is great for running. It has been raining the past days when I’ve been training,” said Cardona.

“For the qualifying race, I prepared by running four times a week. I also joined several races. I will continue my training and I hope to be at my best for the National Finals.”

With the support of the Department of Education and the National MILO Marathon runners, MILO’s Help Gives Shoes advocacy will provide 16,000 underprivileged youth with brand new running shoes and reach the 50,000 mark this year. As MILO celebrates its 50th year, Help Give Shoes aims to make the donation to students in Yolanda-hit cities, particularly Tacloban, Ormoc, and Eastern Samar.

“MILO’s Help Give Shoes is wonderful program which reaches out to underprivileged children who aspire to run and become future champions. I used to be one of those kids, and the advocacy continues to inspire me,” said Herrera. Cardona echoes the same sentiments.

“What MILO does for the children is admirable, and I’m more than willing to contribute and help our aspiring athletes. We all share the same passion for running, and it’s great that the kids will be able to pursue their dreams,” she added.

The qualifying race will resume in Tarlac on July 13 before heading to

  1. Angeles (July 20),
  2. Manila (July 27),
  3. Naga (August 24),
  4. Lucena (August 31),
  5. Puerto Princesa (September 7),
  6. Lipa (September 14),
  7. Iloilo (September 21),
  8. Bacolod (September 28),
  9. Tagbilaran (October 5),
  10. Cebu (October 12),
  11. Butuan (October 19),
  12. Cagayan De Oro (November 9),
  13. General Santos (November 16), and
  14. Davao (November 23).
  15. The National Finals will be held on December 7 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City.

The 38th National MILO Marathon is made possible by Timex, the Bayview Park Hotel Manila, ASICS, Lenovo, Manila Bulletin and Gatorade, along with endorsements from the Department of Education, Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

How This Big Brand Gets You to Be #BetterTogether

With the recent launch of the #BetterTogether campaign, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola took a stand and asked people to stay offline a little longer to celebrate real-world connections.

Encouraging its customers to spend time with one another over a McDonald’s meal and a Coca-Cola drink, the two iconic brands introduced the BFF Bundles, meals best shared with friends, enabling them to experience moments of genuine connection anytime, anywhere.

In order to amplify and sustain the #BetterTogether campaign’s big idea of inspiring people to enrich their friendships by being physically together, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola have developed a new mobile app that will make bonding time even more exciting—the BFF Timeout App.

A fun new way to bring friends closer together, the BFF Timeout App is a gaming app which challenges players to go on a “digital timeout” with friends—to celebrate real-world connections without digital interruptions, such as checking their mobile phones. Customers just have to download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store on their iOS or Android phones, log in with their Facebook accounts or play as a guest, invite friends to play, and spend minutes, or even hours, gadget-free.

The game is very simple yet offers a fun challenge to those who find themselves often glued to their smartphones and handheld gadgets, as one can earn badges for more minutes played. The longer you and your friends go on a timeout, the better the reward!

More than being able to play a game with the gang, friends also have the chance to take their timeout to a fun destination! Until July 19, 2014, every purchase of a BFF Burger or Chicken Bundle for three or four comes with a coupon. Each coupon contains a code, which must be entered in the app to qualify for a chance to win a free trip for four! Prizes include a trip to Boracay on the first raffle draw, Coron, Palawan on the second, Singapore on the third and Osaka, Japan on the final draw.

So how long do you think you and your friends can last on a digital timeout? Download the McDonald’s and Coca-Cola BFF Timeout App now and find out!

This is how social media should be designed for, to upgrade the quality of life and experiences and not distract us!

Visit to know more. Tell us how you’re celebrating real-world connections by using the hashtags #BetterTogether and #BFFTimeout.

#JayseeBlabs Closer Look on Developing an App for your Brand

There is so much value into creating apps that market your brand in a way that will give consumers a fresh new way to interact with your portfolio at the same having a lifestyle problem solved at the same time. It's all about creating a much bigger enterprise impact.

Your proposition to give a better experience or make their lives easier should be exceeded each and every time as time and resource to download your app has its cost to the end-user. Marketing the brand should come second and make usability and purpose as first.

Multi-national brands should consider placing deep investment in app development to platforms where their consumers spend time on. Customer engagement has long changed and is set to replace the traditional marketing in the next few years or so because of its scalability, reach, cost-effectiveness and "measurability."

See the Grandest Picnic in the Philippines Come Alive

From a small ice cream parlor to one of the country's biggest multinational with brand in every fastfood category possible, Jollibee traces its roots from creating awesome family experiences in their stores. And what better way to thank their patrons for the decades of amazing success than throwing out the grandest picnic in the country simultaneously on the key cities.

Celebrating my last day in Cebu, I attended the pumped up event with Spongecola serenading the crowd and was soon followed by today's rising stars Gerald Anderson and Julie Anne San Jose.

For more info on the Family Bee Day check this post out!

#JayseeBlabs Closer Look On Family-Oriented Brands

With the Filipino food industry being so saturated, one brand has stood the test of time. Jollibee has long embedded family traditions into our lives as modern Pinoy society is concerned. As a child, I could always remember how happy I'd get everytime my family and I would go to the nation's most famous fastfood chain for a weekend lunch. They were not the first to set up shop but they did localize their competitor and guaranteed something better.

It's not just how consistent they have served their products but the pleasant experience they give to consumers like me. The competitive marketing sector who builds emotional connections with their target audience will always fare better than those who don't. That is why businesses go to extensive lengths to rebrand themselves and develop marketing messages that relate to their customers. Making memorable events happen to consumer's lives supports the social ideals of the company's values, brand promise, and vision of the future.

Capitalizing on customer loyalty here and abroad and organizing events such as this, Jollibee will always continue to have a place in our hearts.

Startup Weekend Cebu 4, organized by and DOST-ICT Office and supported by Cebu Educational Development Foundation for IT (CEDF-IT), is aimed at generating breakthrough ideas from tech communities in the Visayas region.

Startup Weekend is a 54-hour competition where developers, designers, marketers, technopreneurs, and venture capitalists come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startup businesses.

The concept, which started in the U.S., is a global movement to empower young entrepreneurs to nurture their innovative ideas into becoming sustainable businesses.

The event gathers experts and practitioners from different fields of business to mentor the participants as they launch their concepts into business reality.

The whole event involves the participants in different stages of the business cycle including idea creation and business pitching, prototype development, mentorship and networking sessions until product or business presentation to possible investors and funders.

According to DOST Undersecretary and ICT Office executive director Louis Napoleon C. Casambre, the ICT Office has been moving forward in its new thrust to uplift the entrepreneurial spirit in the ICT industry, and in line with this, it is supporting Startup Weekend Cebu 4.

“The DOST - ICT Office believes that providing support in countryside entrepreneurial activities is an effective way in livening and expanding the local economy through ICT,” Ibrahim said. “Promotion of homegrown ICT products and businesses will not only provide employment in the countryside but also help develop innovative and creative solutions that can address not only the local but also the global market.”

Tina Amper, founder of, said the DOST - ICT Office has since been very supportive of their activities, which now includes a Startup Weekend in Bohol later this year.
“From the first Startup Weekend Cebu to `Geeks on a Beach’, the DOST - ICT Office has been a consistent backer,” Amper said. “They have always been there for us, and we are very grateful to them, specially to Usec. Casambre and ICT Office deputy executive director Mon Ibrahim.”

Amper is serving as adviser/mentor to a new set of volunteer organizers who have stepped up to lead this year’s Startup Weekend. Entrepreneurs Rica Serenio and Ben Skelton will be leading SWCebu and SWBohol, respectively.

During Startup Weekend, participants get acquainted with one another starting on a Friday night. They pitch startup concepts they are passionate about, and form teams around the most popular ideas. They refine their ideas and business plans and start building product prototypes with the help of the onsite mentors, and then present what they have accomplished in a four-minute pitch and demo by Sundayevening.

Following the success of its inaugural staging in May 2012, Startup Weekend Cebu organizers successfully staged its second and third and now decided to hold its fourth leg in June due to the incessant demand of startup enthusiasts in the Visayas and Mindanao area again in partnership with DOST-ICT Office.

What The UK Ambassador Did That Delighted Filipino Guests

British Ambassador to the Philippines Asif Ahmad greeted guests in eloquent Filipino which came as a pleasant surprise in an intimate event with British diplomats and Cebu society.

He shares the hardships they had to go through when the most unfortunate thing happened to our country. "As we had no military operational links with the Philippines, I had to ensure that our deployment of two navy ships, three [Royal Air Force] cargo planes and 1,200 military personnel were able to operate effectively."

Overcoming a huge dilemma in transporting care to those who need it most, it has never been highly publicized that United Kingdom is the number one contributor in the wake of supertyphoon Haiyan/Yolanda’s wreckage in the Visayas, surpassing the US, humility that is of record level, a testament to their genuine care for us as a nation.

He also shares his vision of attracting more stakeholders to come and invest in the country thus creating more jobs and opportunities and his track record would speak for itself.

He now looks forward to a brighter future for Philippines as with the rest of us.

He has chosen a long time Cebu resident who served a key role in organizing British aid as UK new honorary consul in Cebu. Ms Tamsin Booth has been assigned to care for British citizens in the Visayas and she speaks our local vernacular (Bisaya) as beautifully as she looks.

To our British envois, we, the Filipino people, will be forever grateful by your generosity, urgency and humility all these years.

Instagrammed with [l-r] Ms Victoria Buenaventura, Consul Ms Tamsin Booth, Ambassador Asif Ahmad and yours truly.

After the success of the first National Breakfast Day last year, McDonald’s Philippines, together with thousands of other McDonald’s restaurants in Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa, will be celebrating the second National Breakfast Day.

On March 17, McDonald’s will once again be treating Filipinos to a free McMuffin. Close to 320 McDonald’s breakfast stores nationwide are joining the celebration to say ‘thank you’ to its customers who start their day at McDonald’s.

Starting 6:00 AM, each participating McDonald’s breakfast store will be giving away free McMuffins to the first 1,000 customers at a first-come-first-serve basis –that’s over 315,000 hot and fresh McMuffins to be given away nationwide via Dine-In, Take-Out, and Drive-Thru.

Jaysee Blabs and Ronal McDonald at the Jones Branch for the activation press conference. :)

“We were so encouraged by our customers’ resounding response in the region last year, we are bringing back National Breakfast Day to remind people about waking up to better mornings with breakfast,” said Andrew Hipsley, Chief Brand Officer of McDonald’s for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

“Breakfast is a significant business for McDonald’s. And we know the convenience of a hot McMuffin on-the-go makes breakfast so much more accessible for people who are often caught up in the morning rush.”

As a firm believer of breakfast, McDonald’s aims to make more people say “Hooray for Today!” and get the filling meal that they need, especially in the morning.

“Together with the rest of the region, we are both excited and ready for this year’s National Breakfast Day. There have been heavy preparations in our stores to make this year’s celebration bigger and better for more Filipinos to experience the goodness of a McDonald’s breakfast,” says Kenneth S. Yang, McDonald’s Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer.

“We continue to see potential growth in our breakfast business – and want to demonstrate that our delicious, quality breakfast is a convenient way to start the day,” he added.

McDonald’s Philippines has been serving breakfast since the 1980’s but was re-launched in 2008 with local products like Hamdesal. Iconic menu items, like the Egg McMuffin, made with lightly grilled Canadian bacon, freshly cracked Grade A egg, and melty American-style cheese sandwiched between warm perfectly toasted English Muffins, have become a breakfast favorite for Filipino customers who are on-the-go and prefer a no-fuss handheld meal.

Groupie with Cebu Bloggers and Media :)

#JayseeBlabs About Corporate Sponsorship on Women Empowerment Initiatives

Feminism and gender equality has been a positive catalyst to our modern society creating a world a better place for women, members of the third sex and the marginalized. We've heard about the recent brouhaha created by the sexist remarks of the newly minted Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella who said that women who do not ask for a raise will be rewarded with good karma, an PR disaster that broke the whole tech world's golden gates for all the world to see. It is a cutthroat business world out there  reminiscent of fabled battlefields, that if you are too are too meek then you will not survive an industry run by vicious men and the CEO's comments reflect the current state of the world today, that there is a great divide because of the pains brought about by ancient practices and honored by different cultures who discriminate and looked lowly at women.

At a milestone event organized by UN Women and the UN Global Compact in Serbia, 12 CEOs signed the Statement of Support for the Women's Empowerment Principles last March. The private sector champions are: Avon, Actavis, Banca Intesa, B92 Media, Carlsberg, Coca Cola Hellenic Group Serbia, Deloitte, Erste Bank, IBM, Serbia Post, Transnafta and VIP Mobile. Many had already begun to implement a range of initiatives to empower women, such as to develop and track the leadership potentials of female employees, HR practices that protect women's interests, sponsoring women and LGBT events, offering flexible work schedules and recognizing the status of working parents.

As a business leader, you should start to take the cue of those who signed up for this treaty and in your own small ways, join in the revolution to make the private sector one of the best places to work and live for.
